The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially ended its two-year title sponsorship agreement with the fantasy sports platform Dream11. This announcement was made by the board's secretary, Devjeet Saikia, on Monday, confirming that the contract with Dream11 has concluded, and the BCCI is now on the lookout for a new lead sponsor.
This decision follows the recent passage of the Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill 2025 in Parliament, which has received presidential approval. As a result of this new legislation, Dream11 has ceased all its cash-based online gaming contests.
In 2023, BCCI had entered into a three-year sponsorship deal with Dream11 valued at ₹358 crores. However, the new law imposes a complete ban on real-money gaming apps, significantly impacting Dream11's business model.
During an interview with a media outlet, BCCI secretary Devjeet Saikia expressed that under the new regulations, it would be challenging for the BCCI to continue its association with Dream11 or any similar gaming company. He noted that this presents a significant hurdle, and it seems unlikely that they will proceed with Dream11.
Dream11 has terminated its agreement with the Indian cricket board without incurring any penalties, as the contract included a specific clause allowing for termination in the event of government restrictions or changes in law. Consequently, Team India now requires a lead sponsor ahead of the Asia Cup; if one is not secured, they may compete without sponsorship.
